It is with great enthusiasm that the Neva Foundation presents an exceptional project, the Festival "Kino. Films from Russia and beyond" which was held in Geneva and Lausanne, Switzerland, on September 21-29, 2013. The festival presented films produced in the countries of the former Soviet Union within the past two years.
The best films produced in Russia, Belarus, Moldavia, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kirgizstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have found their way into the festival program. Even though they are made in different countries, they are rooted in the same cinematographic culture.
The cinema lovers were able to choose among full-length, short and documentary films, retrospective and a special screening of an animation film for the young audience.
Each selected film is meant to give hope and positive feelings, the themes and the issues addressed are universal and they reach out to all the spectators regardless of the language they speak or the country they live in.
Participating in the creation of this new international festival, the Neva Foundation wishes to support filmmakers and young talents from the countries of the Former Soviet Union, by giving them an opportunity to make the European audience familiar with their works. The promotion of the contemporary post-Soviet filmmaking industry is a way to broaden our cinematic horizons and discover something new about the cinema we thought we knew.
This exceptional cultural event has an ambition to become a major film festival dedicated to films made in the Ex-USSR countries and to reveal the most outstanding and promising talents of those countries.
