The ground-breaking show Semianyki of the famous clown and mime group the Semianyki Theatre was staged around the world and for the first time made a stop in Geneva this year thanks to the generous support of the Neva Foundation.
This Russian company stems from the famous group Licedei founded in 1968 by Slava Polunin, recognized as the best clown in the world.
The clowns tell us the story of the great and small miseries of a Russian clown family that struggles in a pleasing alcoholic melancholy without saying a word. The members of the Semianyki live in a retro jumble: an alcoholic father, a very pregnant mother hen and a bunch of loony brats determined to establish their rule.
In this show of great inventiveness, a mixture of commedia dell’arte, English burlesque, French mimes and legendary popular Russian clown art, the company makes us laugh our head off at their surrealistic scenes and touches the child in everyone, yet giving a raw vision of a certain social reality (le Monde).
The critics are unanimous: the whirlwind show has everything to make you thrill with laughter at the crazy clowns' antics.
