Antiquities of the Black Sea is a joint archaeological research project between the University of Lausanne and Russian academic institutions, forming together the research centre Bosporan Studies.

This brand new partnership makes it possible to intensify exchanges between Russian and Swiss researchers as well to bring innovative research projects to a high scientific level.

The Neva Foundation is proud to support the efforts of the scientists who study monuments of Greco-Roman Antiquity and wall paintings discovered in the Black Sea region. In doing so, the Foundation wishes to sponsor this team work since the complementarity of Swiss and Russian scientists is a sine qua non condition of a better understanding of wonders and mysteries of the ancient world.

These treasures comprise Demeter's Tomb in Crimea, fragments of wall paintings from Pantikapaion's Acropolis, graffiti on a painted wall from a sanctuary in Nymphaion or a painted sarchophagus from a necropolis in Pantikapaion.

The project also includes the publication of volumes on the North Pontic studies, a collection of scientific articles as well as the editorial work on the archaeology in the Black Sea basin.

The scientific research will culminate in the organization of an exhibition of some of the treasures of the Hermitage Museum, the biggest museum in the world in terms of the number of exhibit items, which will take place in the Art and History Museum in Geneva. The exhibition dedicated to the southern Russian Antiquities promises to be a major event in the cultural life of Geneva.
