In May 2013, the Neva Foundation and the International Chess Federation (FIDE) were pleased to announce the launch of the new series for the world's leading women players. These series sees 18 players combatting it out over two years to produce a challenger for the World Championship in 2015.
This international event, which was organized by FIDE with the generous financial support of the Neva Foundation, brought together the World's most renowned women chess players such as the current World Champion, Anna Ushenina from Ukraine as well as former Women World Champions, Hou Yifan from China and Alexandra Kosteniuk from Russia.
Our partnership with FIDE is based on the belief that international chess tournaments are an important vehicle of intercultural communication helping to forge strong links between different nations and to bring down borders in sport and art. Hence the motto of this prestigious institution, Gens una sumus "We are one family".
Thanks to the Neva Foundation, the series kicked off in the beautiful city of Geneva, Switzerland. No expense has been spared to ensure a quality event and the staring list was equally impressive.
The Fondation Neva Women's Grand Prix is a reflection of the Neva Foundation's desire to raise awareness about this discipline considered as a national sport in Russia as well as of its involvement in popularizing it abroad.
