The second edition of the KINO Festival of films from Russia and beyond is taking place in Geneva and Lausanne from the 10th to the 19th October 2014.
A unique event, the festival promotes new films from countries which used to be part of the Soviet Union: most of them are to be shown for the first time in Switzerland and in Europe.
A mix of fiction and documentaries, retrospectives or films for a young public: each film shown reflects the artistic diversity of a new generation of film-makers from Russia, Armenia, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Moldova and Ukraine.
To reward the directors and to encourage creative film-making, four prizes will be awarded by a jury consisting of well-known figures from different countries.
The president of the Neva Foundation, Elena Timchenko, says : « Art is a universal language, the ideal way to immerse oneself in infinite imaginings, to discover unknown populations or regions, to approach cultural specificities and to help us to distinguish that which lies behind prejudice. Today, more than ever, I believe it is essential to create opportunities so that we can all meet to understand each other better. Cinema – a vehicle for emotions, symbols and meanings – seems to be the ideal place to achieve this. »
The Festival is organised by the Kino Association. Co-founded by the Neva Foundation, a Timchenko family foundation and by the Honorary Consulate of the Federation of Russia in Lausanne.
The screenings were held at:
Geneva : Pathé Rex (opening), Grand Théâtre (closing), Cinémas du Grütli,
Maison des Arts du Grütli (Fonction Cinéma) Ciné 17, HEAD (round tables)
Lausanne : Cinémathèque suisse, Le Capitole
