In May 2013 the Grand Théâtre de Genève and the Neva Foundation were pleased to present the children's opera Puss in Boots by César Cui, a prolific Russian composer of the nineteenth century.
The opera followed the original Charles Perrault's well-known tale of a clever cat who helps his low-bown and poor master to gain power and wealth, as well as the heart of a beautiful princess. Inspired by this story which became an instant success, César Cui wrote an opera for children in the tradition of the Russian music, combining simplicity, tenderness, wits and grace.
The adaptation rich in colour that the Neva Foundation was proud to present is a pure creation of the Grand Théâtre de Genève, since everything starting with a brand new staging and scenography as well as costumes, was created by this prestigious Geneva's institution.
The performance was produced with the participation of the musicians of the Orchestra of Collège de Genève aged from 14 to 19 assisted by professional musicians under the musical direction of the talented and enthusiastic Philippe Béran, and the children's chorus of the Conservatoire populaire de Genève aged from 7 to 16. The show made by children and for children was an exceptional opportunity to dive into the world of music and tale where the impossible becomes possible!
Performances took place on May 11, 16 and 17, 2013.
