Every year, the Verbier Festival awards the Neva Foundation Prize to one or two particularly deserving young Russian musicians, who stood out during their stay at the Verbier Academy. The CHF 10,000 grant is a concrete support for the pursuit of specific musical studies or projects.
This year, 28-year-old pianist Alexei Melnikov won the prize for his project to rediscover and rehabilitate the works of composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg, and more specifically his sonatas for clarinet and piano. This award will contribute to the necessary funds for the recording of these works with fellow musician Mikhail Mering, and for promotional activities such as concerts.
