The Neva Foundation is proud to present the Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Temirkanov that will perform on the 11th of September 2013 at the Stravinsky Auditorium in Montreux at the 67th edition of the classical music festival Septembre Musical.

Founded in 1882 by the tsar Alexandre III, the Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra is Russia's oldest symphonic ensemble. In 1934, it became the first orchestra in the country to receive the title of the Honoured Collective of the Russian Federation. After WWII the first orchestra tour abroad took place - it was the first tour ever organised in the Russian history of orchestral performance. Since then, regular tours started to a number of countries, which contributed to Orchestra's success and popularity all over the world.

Nowadays, the Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra is probably the most famous orchestra in Russia. Its artistic director and chief conductor Yuri Temirkanov who has been leading the ensemble since 1988, injected new dynamism and revitalized the ensemble while pursuing an international career. Maestro Temirkanov served as Music Director at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra from 2000 to 2006 and as Principal Guest Conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre from 2007 to 2008. In 2008 he was appointed Music Director of Teatro Regio di Parma.
