With the support of the Neva Foundation, two music legends, the conductor Yuri Temirkanov and the pianist Emanuel Ax met for the Friends of OSR concert on the 20th of November 2013 at Victoria Hall.
The performance of Maestro Temirkanov is known all over the world as it encapsulates the best Russian musical traditions. The artistic director and chief conductor of the prestigious St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra is invited by the most prominent orchestras, e.g. the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw... He has also conducted numerous orchestras in New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Rome and the Orchestre National de France. Such success can be attributed to his irreprehensible and harmonious performance, which the French newspaper Le Monde compares to "an enchanting immersion into a world we might consider disappeared if the Great Russian conduction, one of the genuine giants of the last century, had not kept locked in his baton".
No less legendary but on the other side of the Atlantic, the American pianist Emanuel Ax has been pursuing a sparkling career since many decades. A pure product of the Julliard School, he won the first Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition and the Avery Fischer Prize in New York. In 1987 he signed an exclusive contract with Sony and thus made a number of famous recordings. He actively performs in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and Cleveland as well as in major European cities.
