At just 40 years old, Denis Matsuev is part of the World class piano elite. Travelling from one continent to another, directing several festivals, this passionate as he claims embodies the great Russian piano tradition.

Born in a family of musicians, he wins at only 23 years old the first prize in the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, propelling his young and brilliant musical career.

No doubt the pianist coming from Siberia and with an uncommon energy will deliver a powerful and dynamic interpretation of these classics.

The Seasons, a piece composed by Tchaikovsky between November 1875 and May 1876, divided into months of the year (January - Fireside, February - Carnival, March - Song of the Lark etc.). At the request of Nikolay Matveyevich Bernard, editor of the "Nouvelliste", a monthly magazine from St. Petersburg, Tchaikovsky composed a piece for the magazine every month, accompanied by a poetic inscription in Russian.

Mephisto Waltz No. 1, S514 Liszt (the best known of the four), also composed in the late 19th century by Liszt, who gets an episode in the history of Nikolaus Lenau's Faust.

It will be followed by eighteen pieces for piano, op. 72 by Tchaikovsky, a collection for piano composed in 1893, the number 5 called Meditation - andante mosso, in D major.

The concert ends with a classic Rachmaninov's Piano Sonata No. 2 in B flat minor, opus 36, written in early 1913 in Rome and Russia.
